This short course is about looking after people and our environment. Reducing the negative environmental impact of work practises and working in a healthy and safe environment is very important in all workplaces. In maintaining a safe environment, you may need to follow WHS and emergency procedures and instructions, implement WHS requirements and participate in WHS consultative processes.

In these two units of study, you will learn to participate in environmentally sustainable work practises and contribute to the health and safety of self and others.

This short course will earn you a Statement of Attainment in partial completion of BSB20115 Certificate II in Business.

We provide you with three (3) months to complete this course. How long it actually takes will be reflective of the time you are able to dedicate to your studies.

This course could be completed within 10 – 15 hours of study per unit. It may take you less time, it may take you more. That is why we give you three (3) months and all the support you need. The rest is up to you!

BSBSUS201 Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will:

  • locate and interpret a range of environment/sustainability legislation and procedural requirements
  • participate in and support discussions for an improved resource efficiency process
  • identify, document and measure usage of resources
  • collaborate with team members on suggestions for improving workplace practices

Demonstrate knowledge of:

  • environmental and resource hazards/risks as well as environmental or sustainability legislation, regulations and codes of practice applicable to own role
  • sustainability requirements in the workplace
  • reporting channels and procedures to report breaches and potential issues
  • where to find environmental and resource efficiency systems and procedures

BSBWHS201 Contribute to health and safety of self and others

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will have the ability to:

  • follow all relevant procedures and instructions relating to work health and safety (WHS) and emergency incidents
  • identify and report hazards to designated personnel
  • contribute to WHS consultative processes

Demonstrate knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures and instructions including:

  • workplace safety procedures and instructions including:
    • systems and equipment
    • routine work operations
    • personal protective equipment (PPE)
    • report incidents and injuries
  • emergency procedures including those for fires and incidents
  • commonly used hazard signs and safety symbols
  • duty holder responsibilities, as specified in WHS Acts, regulations and codes of practice, of:
    • self and fellow workers
    • persons conducting businesses or undertakings (PCBUs)
    • officers
    • others in the workplace
  • difference between hazards and risks
  • WHS hazards that may be present in the workplace, the harm they can cause and how this harm occurs
  • process of hazard identification and risk reduction

Requirements

There are no formal requirements. However, learners will need:
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
  • Basic computer skills
    • Knowledge of common computing terms and word processing
    • Proficiency with web browser software and sending/receiving e-mail including e-mail with attachment
    • Familiarity with navigating the Internet
  • To meet technical requirements
