As a person who provides administrative support to staff and management in the business services sector, you have an important role to play as part of your organisation and work team. One of the requirements of working in business is to be able to produce text documents, organise your personal work priorities and organise schedules for your peers and managers in such a way that your organisation and its clients will benefit.

Get the training you need to be skilled for entry-level administration positions through this Office Assistant short course. Develop a higher level of time management, planning, organising skills, and learn various key administrative areas of business.

In these three units of study, you will learn how to design and produce text documents, organise schedules and your personal work priorities and development.

We provide you with four (4) months to complete this course. How long it actually takes will be reflective of the time you are able to dedicate to your studies.

This course could be completed within 10 – 15 hours of study per unit. It may take you less time, it may take you more. That is why we give you four (4) months and all the support you need. The rest is up to you!

BSBADM307 Organise schedules

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will:

  • appropriately manage the schedules of various individuals through a process of careful planning and negotiation
Demonstrate knowledge of:
  • key provisions of relevant legislation, standards and codes that affect aspects of business operations or the achievement of team goals
  • organisational requirements for managing appointments for personnel within the organisation
  • range of appointment systems that could be used
  • important considerations when managing the schedules of others

BSBWOR301 Organise personal work priorities and development

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will:

  • prepare a work plan according to organisational requirements and work objectives
  • use business technology to schedule, prioritise and monitor completion of tasks in a work plan
  • assess and prioritise own work load and deal with contingencies
  • monitor and assess personal performance against job role requirements by seeking feedback from colleagues and clients
  • identify personal development needs and access, complete and record skill development and learning

Demonstrate knowledge of:

  • key provisions of legislation that relate to own work role
  • goals, objectives or key performance indicators of own work role
  • ways to elicit, analyse and interpret feedback when communicating with other people in the workplace
  • the principles and techniques of goal setting, measuring performance, time management and personal assessment of learning and development needs
  • signs and sources of stress and strategies to deal with stress in the workplace
  • methods to identify and prioritise personal learning needs

BSBITU303 Design and produce text documents

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will:

  • adhere to organisational requirements and strategies when creating text documents including:
    • ergonomic requirements
    • energy and resource requirements
  • adhere closely to task requirements and required specifications by:
    • following designated timelines
    • achieving consistency of style and image
    • ensuring correct editing and style requirements
    • adhering to designated timelines
  • use advanced software features
  • communicate effectively with personnel
  • overcome problems by referring to user documentation, manuals and online help

Demonstrate knowledge of:

  • various formatting styles and their impact on formatting, readability and appearance of documents
  • organisational requirements for ergonomics, work periods and breaks, and conservation techniques
  • the purpose and contents of an organisational style guide
  • the purpose, uses and functions of word processing software

You will be assessed for these units of competency using a variety of tasks to assess your understanding and skills. A virtual session means you will be one on one with your assessor either answering questions or taking part in a role play, just as you would do in any classroom, only we do it online.

All of our assessments are marked by your assessor within ten (10) working days following the day you submitted your work. You have three (3) attempts for each task to achieve a competency result, with your assessor giving you detailed feedback following each submission.

Requirements

There are no formal requirements. However, learners will need:
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of common computing terms and word processing
  • Proficiency with web browser software and sending/receiving e-mail including e-mail with attachment
  • Familiarity with navigating the Internet
  • Meet technology requirements
