Are you a builder, plumber, electrician, painter, landscaper, gas fitter? Or are you a Security or Investigations Agent? If yes, then we can help you to meet the business knowledge and experience requirements to be granted an SA Contractors Licence.

There are several options to meet these requirements in South Australia, and here at AOT, we can provide you with two of the units from Option 2.

Option 2 requires the completion of two approved units. We offer:

  • BSBSMB401 Establish legal and risk management requirements of small business
  • BSBSMB402 Plan small business finances

You can complete these units at any time of the day or night, at a time convenient to you. You do not have to miss work time by attending a class!

The course is online and all you need is a computer and internet access. We even provide a PDF of the learning content so that if you wish, you can also print the content.

Successful completion of this course will not only assist you to meet the requirements of the business knowledge and experience requirements to be granted a Contractor’s Licence but you will also be issued with a Statement of Attainment in partial completion of the BSB42615 Certificate IV in New Small Business.

We provide you with three (3) months to complete this course, how long it actually takes, will be reflective of the time you are able to dedicate to your studies.

This course could be completed within 15 – 20 hours of study per unit, it may take you less time, it may take you more, that is why we give you three (3) months and all the support you need. The rest is up to you!

BSBSMB401 Establish legal and risk management requirements of small business

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will:

  • demonstrate a systematic approach to identifying, managing and meeting legal and regulatory requirements, specifically in regard to WHS, business registration and environmental requirements
  • ensure compliance, by:
    • following taxation and industrial relations principles
    • updating and maintaining legal documents
    • investigating areas of non-compliance
    • monitoring provision of products and services
    • taking corrective action where necessary
  • negotiate and arrange contracts, including:
    • seeking legal advice
    • investigating procurement rights
    • identifying options of leasing or ownership of business premises
  • identify, assess and treat risks specific to the business including:
    • prioritising risks with highest probability of occurrence and greatest negative impact on the business
    • identifying insurance requirements

Demonstrate knowledge of:

  • business registration and licensing requirements
  • government legislative requirements relating to the specific business operation
  • creation and termination of relevant legal contracts
  • relevant cultural differences and legal implications
  • legal rights and obligations of alternative ownership structures
  • record keeping to meet minimum legal and taxation requirements
  • relevant consumer legislation and industry codes of practice
  • key steps in the risk management process
  • relevant insurance requirements and products

BSBSMB402 Plan small business finances

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will:

  • develop a financial plan which identifies financial requirements of the business, including cash flow projections and a projected profit statement
  • follow the financial plan, including:
    • demonstrating an awareness of appropriate legal requirements
    • implementing strategies to monitor financial performance costs of securing appropriate financial assistance

Demonstrate knowledge of:

  • break-even analysis
  • costing for the business, including margin or mark-up, hourly charge-out rates and unit costs
  • financial decision-making relevant to the business
  • methods and relative costs of obtaining finance
  • principles for preparing balance sheets
  • principles for preparation of cash flow forecasts
  • principles for preparation of profit and loss statements
  • purpose of financial reports
  • relevant accounting terminology
  • working capital cycles

You will be assessed for these units of competency using a variety of tasks to assess your understanding and skills. A virtual session means you will be one on one with your assessor either answering questions or taking part in a role play, just as you would do in any classroom, only we do it online.

All of our assessments are marked by your assessor within five working days following the day you submitted your work. You have three attempts for each task to achieve a competency result, with your assessor giving you detailed feedback following each submission.

Requirements

There are no formal requirements. However, learners will need:
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
  • Basic computer skills
    • Knowledge of common computing terms and word processing
    • Proficiency with web browser software and sending/receiving e-mail including e-mail with attachment
    • Familiarity with navigating the Internet
  • To meet technical requirements
