This is a single unit course.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to design and produce desktop published documents.

It applies to individuals who work in a range of environments, which may include providing administrative support within an enterprise, or who may be technical or knowledge experts responsible for production of their own documents.

Upon successful completion of the unit you will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in partial completion of the BSB30415 Certificate III in Business Administration.

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will:

  • follow organisational and safe work practices including:
    • ergonomic requirements
    • energy and resource conservation techniques
  • adhere to organisational requirements by:
    • ensuring consistency of style and image
    • logically sequencing data
    • producing documents within designated timelines
    • naming and storing documents
  • adhere to task requirements when producing documents including:
    • applying consistent formatting
    • using appropriate templates and master pages
    • using correct layouts
  • resolve any issues including:
    • formatting issues
    • errors and omissions
    • problems with design or production
    • use appropriate data storage options
    • apply knowledge of functions and features of contemporary computer applications
    • communicate with relevant personal

    Demonstrate knowledge of:

    • energy and resource conservation techniques
    • organisational requirements for ergonomics, work periods and breaks
    • the contents and purpose of organisational style guides
    • the purposes, uses and functions of desktop publishing software
    • various formatting styles and their effect on formatting, readability and appearance of documents

You will be assessed for these units of competency using a variety of tasks to assess your understanding and skills. A virtual session means you will be one on one with your assessor either answering questions or taking part in a role play, just as you would do in any classroom, only we do it online.

All of our assessments are marked by your assessor within ten (10) working days following the day you submitted your work. You have three attempts for each task to achieve a competency result, with your assessor giving you detailed feedback following each submission.

Requirements

There are no formal requirements. However, learners will need:
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
  • Basic computer skills
    • Knowledge of common computing terms and word processing
    • Proficiency with web browser software and sending/receiving e-mail including e-mail with attachment
    • Familiarity with navigating the Internet
  • To meet technical requirements

  • Internet access: Minimum ADSL1 with a speed of at least 1.5Mbps
