In this first stage, you will learn to demonstrate leadership in the workplace. You will gain the skills and knowledge required to lead teams and individuals by modelling high standards of conduct that reflect the organisation’s standards and values.

Making the transition from being a team member to a team leader requires you to have a strong influence on the work culture, values and ethics of the teams you supervise. As teams are required to work on projects, this course will teach you the skills and knowledge in effectively supervising and leading a team in achieving project goals.

In this course, you will learn to develop a project plan, administer and monitor the project, finalise, and then review the project. Whilst doing this, you will also need to plan, draft and finalise complex documents. All of the knowledge and skills you will learn from this course will help you perform your leadership or supervisory role effectively so you can make a positive impact in the workplace and advance your career further.

BSBLDR411 Demonstrate leadership in the workplace

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to lead teams and individuals by modelling high standards of conduct to reflect the organisation’s standards and values.

The unit applies to individuals who are making the transition from being a team member to taking responsibility for the work and performance of others and providing the first level of leadership within the organisation. These leaders have a strong influence on the work culture, values and ethics of the teams they supervise.

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will:
  • Develop and implement at least two performance plans, including one relating to individuals and one relating to teams.
In the course of the above, you must:
  • Comply with organisation’s standards and values
  • Evaluate own behaviour and performance against organisational standards and values and adjust to achieve required standards
  • Ensure own behaviour and performance contributes to the integrity and credibility of the organisation
  • Facilitate processes to make decisions that are based on:
    • Relevant information
    • Examination of options and associated risks
    • Input from relevant people
  • Communicate about making and implementing decisions including:
    • Facilitating agreement on the preferred course of action and implementation plans

BSBPMG430 Undertake project work

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake a minor project or a section of a larger project. It covers developing a project plan, administering and monitoring the project, finalising the project and reviewing the project to identify lessons learned for application to future projects.

The unit applies to individuals who play a significant role in ensuring a project meets timelines, quality standards, budgetary limits and other requirements set for the project.

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will:
  • Undertake project work on a minor project or a section of a larger project.
In the course of the above, you must:

  • Consult and communicate with relevant stakeholders to generate input and engagement in planning, implementing and reviewing the project
  • Provide support to team members to enable them to achieve deliverables and to transition them as appropriate at completion of the project.

BSBWRT411 Write complex documents

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to plan, draft and finalise complex documents.

The unit applies to individuals who work in a range of business environments and are skilled in the creation of documents that are more complex than basic correspondence, memos and/or forms and that require review and analysis of a range of information sources.

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will:
  • Plan, draft and finalise three different complex documents that convey the required information in a format suitable for the intended audience and purpose according to organisational policies and procedures for document production.
In the course of the above, the candidate must:
  • Review and analyse a range of information sources
  • Use business technology to apply formatting and incorporate graphics
  • Apply organisation style guide/house style.
Nominal hours = 50

You will be assessed for these units of competency using a variety of tasks to assess your understanding and skills. A virtual session means you will be one on one with your assessor either answering questions or taking part in a role play, just as you would do in any classroom, only we do it online.

All of our assessments are marked by your assessor within ten (10) working days following the day you submitted your work. You have three (3) attempts for each assessment task to achieve a satisfactory outcome (100% pass mark), with your assessor giving you detailed feedback following each submission.

We provide you with up to four (4) months to complete this short course. How long it actually takes you to complete each unit will be reflective of the time you are able to dedicate to your studies.

In the units list, you will see the government’s nominal hours for each unit, which are their anticipated number of study hours. Our students usually find that their actual study hours are less than this.
