BSBFIA302 Process payroll

This unit describes skills and knowledge required to process payroll from provided data using manual and computerised payroll systems.

It applies to individuals employed in a range of work environments who are responsible for payroll functions within an organisation. They may work as individuals providing administrative support within an enterprise, or may be other members of staff who have been delegated payroll responsibilities.

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will:
  • plan and perform payroll calculations in accordance with all legislative and organisational requirements, and predetermined timelines

  • relevant organisational policies and procedures

BSBFIA303 Process accounts payable and receivable

This unit describes skills and knowledge required to maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable records, including processing payments to creditors and handling overdue accounts receivable.

It applies to individuals employed in a range of work environments supporting the accounting functions and aspects of an enterprise. They may provide administrative support within an enterprise, or may be members of staff who have been delegated accounting responsibilities.

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will:
  • accurately enter data into journal and subsidiary ledger system
  • maintain journals and subsidiary ledger systems
  • reconcile subsidiary ledger system with journal or general ledger data
  • complete all tasks in accordance with legal and organisational responsibilities, within scope of own responsibility
Demonstrate knowledge of:
  • key provisions of relevant legislation and regulations, standards and codes of practice that may affect aspects of financial operations
  • organisational accounting systems and procedures
  • how to check for errors or discrepancies
  • tasks that are outside own scope of responsibility
Nominal hours = 30 hours

You will be assessed for these units of competency using a variety of tasks to assess your understanding and skills. A virtual session means you will be one on one with your assessor either answering questions or taking part in a role play, just as you would do in any classroom, only we do it online.

All of our assessments are marked by your assessor within ten (10) working days following the day you submitted your work. You have three (3) attempts for each assessment task to achieve a satisfactory outcome (100% pass mark), with your assessor giving you detailed feedback following each submission.

We provide you with three (3) months to complete this short course. How long it actually takes you to complete each unit will be reflective of the time you are able to dedicate to your studies.

In the units list, you will see the government’s nominal hours for each unit, which are their anticipated number of study hours. Our students usually find that their actual study hours are much less than this. To begin planning your studies we recommend planning for 20-25 hours of study per unit and then adjusting as you go. You may book a mentoring session for assistance setting up a study plan once you have enrolled.

Requirements

There are no formal requirements. However, learners will need:
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
  • Basic computer skills
    • Knowledge of common computing terms and word processing
    • Proficiency with web browser software and sending/receiving e-mail including e-mail with attachment
    • Familiarity with navigating the Internet
  • Meet technology requirements
