BSBCMM201 Communicate in the workplace

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate in the workplace including gathering, conveying and receiving information and completing routine written correspondence.

It applies to individuals who perform a range of routine workplace communication tasks using a limited range of practical skills and fundamental knowledge of effective listening, questioning and non-verbal communication in a defined context under direct supervision or with limited individual responsibility.

  2. Complete workplace documentation and correspondence
  3. Communicate in a way that responds positively to individual differences
Upon successful completion of this unit, you will:
  • communicate information and ideas verbally and non-verbally, taking cultural differences and language barriers into consideration
  • produce written material, used routinely in day to day work, which is clear, concise and effectively conveys the intended meaning to the recipient
  • complete workplace forms
  • use style, format and level of accuracy appropriate to the type of written material
  • provide prompt responses to requests for information in accordance with organisational requirements

BSBIND201 Work effectively in a business environment

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a business environment. It includes identifying and working to organisational standards, managing workload, and working as part of a team.

It applies to individuals developing basic skills and knowledge in preparation for working in a broad range of settings.

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will:
  • work within organisational requirements including:
    • complying with duty of care, and goals and objectives of organisation

BSBWOR203 Work effectively with others

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work cooperatively with others and deal effectively with issues, problems and conflict.

It applies to individuals who perform a range of routine tasks using a limited range of practical skills, and a fundamental knowledge of teamwork in a defined context under direct supervision or with limited individual responsibility.

  2. Contribute to workgroup activities
  3. Deal effectively with issues, problems and conflict
Upon successful completion of this unit, you will:
  • identify own responsibilities in relation to the team and the organisation's requirements
  • work effectively in a workgroup including:
    • support team members
    • use culturally appropriate communication skills
    • act on constructive feedback
    • cooperate and contribute to team goals
    • identify improvement opportunities
  • identify problems and conflicts and address them appropriately
Demonstrate knowledge of:
  • organisational standards, policies and procedures that relate to own work role
  • team responsibilities and duties and their relationship to individual responsibilities and duties
  • conflict resolution techniques
Nominal Hours: 15

You will be assessed for these units of competency using a variety of tasks to assess your understanding and skills. A virtual session means you will be one on one with your assessor either answering questions or taking part in a role play, just as you would do in any classroom, only we do it online.

All of our assessments are marked by your assessor within ten (10) working days following the day you submitted your work. You have three (3) attempts for each assessment task to achieve a satisfactory outcome (100% pass mark), with your assessor giving you detailed feedback following each submission.

We provide you with four (4) months to complete this short course. How long it actually takes you to complete each unit will be reflective of the time you are able to dedicate to your studies.

In the units list, you will see the government’s nominal hours for each unit, which are their anticipated number of study hours. Our students usually find that their actual study hours are much less than this. To begin planning your studies we recommend planning for 20-25 hours of study per unit and then adjusting as you go. You may book a mentoring session for assistance setting up a study plan once you have enrolled.

Requirements

There are no formal requirements. However, learners will need:
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
  • Basic computer skills
    • Knowledge of common computing terms and word processing
    • Proficiency with web browser software and sending/receiving e-mail including e-mail with attachment
    • Familiarity with navigating the Internet
  • Meet technology requirements

  • CPU: Min. of 2 GB of RAM, Min. of 2 GB of spare disk space is recommended

  • Internet access: Minimum ADSL1 with a speed of at least 3 Mbps
  • An email address that is unique to you and that you will maintain throughout your enrolment

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) or similar software
  • Up-to-date web browser version
